Philippine Economic Growth

I was reading L'Expansion magazine, January 2006 edition (I know, the news must be too old) and was glued on an article about economic growth on several countries. I then searched Asia, then Philippines. The forecasted growth for 2006 was 4.4% compared to 1.8% in France. Not bad. But me thinks we could do better than that if not for this:

Aux Philippines, l'instabilité politique et la corruption
n'incitent guère les investisseurs à s'installer.

Translation: In the Philippines, political instability and corruption don't incite investors anymore to put up their business there.

Our present political situation, if not changed will push the Philippines to poverty. No more investors, no more tourists, no more jobs to our fellow Filipinos.
FYI, the first in the list in East Asia is China, followed by Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia and Cambodia. Naunahan na tayo...

That is quite depressing in regards to corruption and such.

Come to think of it, only twenty years ago, we were mong the leaders in terms of economic growth; obviously, all went downhill from there. Sad.

I have my nternet shop. The liscenceoffice from barangay to the cityhall try to corrupt me in to some shady business. Buti may prinsipyo si Lolo, I consulted him first. he said, you do as they wish, you sink yourself.
Lolo said, even you pay more, as long as you get the official reciept, in the long run you are better position, and they cannot touch you.
Totoo nga!

Kung di pa sa dollars na pinadadala ng Mga abroad, matagal ng bagsak ang bansa natin...

CyberCelt, hello there ;)

Charles, depressing indeed.

Señor, back in 2000, when i just graduated, a lot of investors were rushing in, it was the companies who were searching for employees. ngayon, wala ng ganun.

Francesca, right. I met some frenchies who had business with the Philippines, and all they could remember is the under the table.

Insurgency and corruptions are the main reasons why we can't move on. People don't trust the government.

Sad reality.....

Minsan nga nagmumuni-muni ako.. noong bata pa ako...ibang-iba ang Pilipinas na aking kinalakihan kaysa sa Pilipinas na nakikita ko ngayon.

Ann, and the sad fact is, nobody in the government really cares about the Philippines.

Rhada, true enough. i had a dollar when i was probably 9yo and it was equivalent to 20 pesos. malaking pera na yun nun. ngayon, what is 100 dollars? pang grocery for a week?

In reality Philippines is not really a poor country but because of CORRUPTION we ended up such...nakakalungkot :(

3 yrs. ago, I had an interesting discussion with a French friend (an Expat to Pinas then) his observations & conclusion :

1. We have a very large agricultural land and government should think of developing it!

2. We have 1,107 islands and government should advertise them w/o corrupting & destroying it's images and nature.

I agree with him and it was such a great pleasure hearing positive vision from a foreigner instead of putting us down!

Hi Haze, how are you and the kids? yeah, that's true. parang the only thing we could do with our country is to be sad with what's happening there.

the little share of tourism that we have seems to be taken advantaged pa instead of taken cared of. my thai colleagues once visited pagsanjan falls, it was ok sana kaya lang, when they get back, the driver of the bangka was asking a $50 dollar tip.. go to thailand and nobody will ask you such exorbitant tip.. or will they even ask you for one.. kainis no?

hello, ana!

It really is depressing how the Philippines is handled poorly by the govt. Corruption grows by the minute! Kainis!

Sometimes I can't help but lose hope. I am truly expecting the worst but still hoping for the best for our country.
